Employment & Human Services

The Employment & Human Services Department (EHSD) is the second largest department in Contra Costa County. Our Bureaus include Children & Family Services, Aging & Adult Services, Workforce Services, Community Services, the Workforce Development Board and Administrative Services. Each Bureau's and its programs can be accessed by clicking on its title in the left side bar of this page.

We provide more than 60 programs that serve over 100,000 citizens in need of basic protection or support services each year. The majority of the services we provide are to children and families, the elderly, the disabled, and to people attempting to enter or move up in the workforce, as well as those on public assistance, to whom services are mandated by federal and state laws and local ordinances.

Our programs are offered throughout the County from 40 locations by more than 1,600 staff members.
