MLK Day of Service Opportunities & Celebrations
The Watershed Project has two service projects to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, January 16th (Rain or shine! Bring rain gear!):
Bay Trail Clean Up at Stege Marsh
9:00 am-12 pm
Meet at 51st at the entrance to the Bay Trail (near South 51st St. and Bayview Ave.)
Winter tides and rainstorms have deposited lots of debris along our shorelines. We’ll work together to collect it to keep wildlife safe, and enhance the beauty of the Bay. Trash bags, gloves, and water will be provided; please bring a water bottle. For waivers and questions, email firstname.lastname@example.org
Richmond Greenway Celebration in partnership with Friends of the Richmond Greenway and the City of Richmond
9:00 am – 2:00 pm
Sign in at the Greenway and 20th St. (nearest cross street 20th St. and Ohio Ave.)
Sign in at the Greenway and 8th St. (nearest cross street 8th St. and Chanslor or Ohio Ave.)
Plant a rain garden, learn to sheet mulch, tend a habitat garden, and join projects with 17 other community partner organizations. Lunch, speakers and entertainment included. For waivers and questions, email
East County cities will honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Jan. 16:
- Antioch High School in a celebration sponsored by the school district and the city. Under the theme, “United by the Dream,” For more information
- Pittsburg’s 16th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration begins at 11 a.m. at City Hall with a powerful rally and march and moves on to the Creative Arts Building for a free celebration.
- San Ramon, Tenth Annual Celebration of Life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.: 4 p.m., Wesley Center, San Ramon Valley United Methodist Church. The service will be followed at 5:45 by a Candlelight Peace Walk, meeting on Prospect Avenue near the Iron Horse Trail in Downtown Danville to celebrate the unity of our faiths.
