Overview
The General Law Division provides all legal services to County departments, officers and boards other than those services provided by the Civil Litigation and Juvenile Dependency divisions. In addition to representing the County, the General Law Division serves as legal counsel to a number of other public agencies and special districts, some of which are listed below. The General Law Division is composed of two units - The General County Government Unit and the Business Transactions and Litigation Unit. Representative clients include the Board of Supervisors, the County Administrator, Contra Costa Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO), and the departments and agencies listed below.
General County Government Unit
The General County Government Unit provides legal services to clients such as the Auditor-Controller, Assessor, Treasurer-Tax Collector, Public Defender, Animal Services Department, Human Resources Department, Employment and Human Services Department, Health Services Department, the Sheriff, Probation, District Attorney, the Grand Jury, the County Office of Education, and Delta Diablo.
Business Transactions and Litigation Unit
Clients represented by the Business Transactions and Litigation Unit include the Public Works Department, the Department of Conservation and Development, the Environmental Health and Hazardous Materials divisions of the Health Services Department, the County Library, the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District, Clerk-Recorder - Elections, the Housing Authority, the State Route 4 Bypass Authority, and the Contra Costa Children and Families Services Commission (First Five).
