Sale of Tax-defaulted Properties

The sale of "Tax-defaulted Property Subject to Power of Sale" is conducted by the Contra Costa County Treasurer - Tax Collector pursuant to the provisions of the Revenue and Taxation Code, and written authorization of the Board of Supervisors. ​​Owners have the right to redeem their property until 5:00 pm on the day prior to commencement of the public auction.

​​Anyone who wishes to bid on property offered for sale must register via the internet at GovEase.com. Each registered bidder will receive an identification number, which will be required at the time of the online auction in order to participate.

The sale will be conducted on line at GovEase.com as a public auction to the highest bidder for not less than the minimum bid as shown on this notice.

Only bids submitted via the internet will be accepted and pre-registration is required. Register on-line at GovEase.com. Bidders must submit a refundable deposit of $ 5,000.00 electronically GovEase.com and a $35 non-refundable registration fee. The $5,000 deposit will be applied to the successful bidder’s purchase price and deed information indicating how title should be vested is required. Only payment by ACH or wire transfer will be accepted. A California transfer tax will be added to and collected with the purchase price and is calculated at $.55 per each $500 or fraction thereof. For properties located within the city limits of Richmond an additional City of Richmond transfer tax will be added to and collected with the purchase price and is calculated at $7.00 per each $1,000 or fraction thereof.  For properties located within the city limits of El Cerrito an additional City of El Cerrito transfer tax will be added to and collected with the purchase price and calculated at $12.00 per each $1,000 or fraction thereof.

All property is sold as is. Due diligence research is incumbent on the bidder. The winning bidder is legally obligated to purchase the item. The county and its employees are not liable for the failure of any electronic equipment that may prevent a person from participating in the sale.
