Finding Your Lost Pet

We want to help you find your lost pet as soon as possible. Here are some steps to help you out:

  1. Start searching immediately.
  2. Visit CCAS to search for your lost pet. Check in with our volunteers when you come in to check our found animal reports and make a lost animal report.
  3. Search for your lost pet in our online lost animal database. Organize by 'Days In Shelter' by clicking that category heading.
  4. Post and search for your lost pet on Fido Alert,, and Craigslist in the Community section under Lost & Found Pets.
  5. Check surrounding veterinary offices where your pet may have been taken. Some well-meaning people may pick up your dog or cat and take it to the closest veterinarian.
  6. Create and distribute flyers and post signs in high traffic areas.
  7. Distribute flyers in vet clinics, pet stores, groomers, pet boarding facilities and other local businesses. Post information on Fido Alert and
  8. Don't give up too quickly. Some lost pets are found within hours or days and others are found months or even years after disappearing. Don't give up hope!

How to Reclaim Your Pet

If you do find that your pet is located at CCAS, there are a few things you will need to do:

  1. Go to the shelter where your pet is located, either at 4800 Imhoff Place Martinez, or 910 San Pablo Avenue in Pinole.
  2. Bring proof of ownership. Examples of this can include: vet records, photos, microchip packet, etc.
  3. You must have a valid photo identification: a driver's license or passport are acceptable.
  4. Bring payment for fees relating to your pet being impounded. You can pay by cash, check (preprinted checks only), or credit card (Visa or MasterCard only). The check writer/credit card holder must be present with valid ID.
