Y.ASSEMBLE Youth Conference & Empowerment Summit
Each year I put on a summit for the youth of Contra Costa County. This event provides opportunities to improve youth achievement and better prepare students for college and future careers. The one day event unites sixth through twelfth grade youth with local dignitaries, mentors and community leaders for an incredible day complete with exploration, education, and entertainment.
This event will be a community effort to build healthy attributes such as self-esteem, honesty, and integrity. Our goal is to assist the youth in constructing the foundation they need to be successful by equipping them with experiences that will enhance their personal and social standards. In addition we want the youth to walk away with a deeper understanding of what it means to be an active citizen in and around their community.
Attendees will start off the day with a motivating presentation from a dynamic keynote speaker during the first hour and will then break off into smaller groups to attend interactive workshops which will offer lessons on life skills, assist with career development and provide a setting to promote positive youth development.
This year we have made quite a few changes to our program, with the changed world in mind, this year youth summit’s aim is to have more organizations that will provide the resources to address the youth issues of the 21st century. In order to address these issues we have updated how we will measure our outcomes in a way that we hope will increase social change by presenting our participants with immersive learning experiences that will promote team building, instill the tools needed for successful conflict resolution, and the importance of inspiring others. as yours are needed as we craft strategies for improving the lives of our youth.
There are many benefits for youth who participate in this event. It offers young people an excellent opportunity to develop and practice leadership skills and to learn about how communities, organizations, legislatures, and key government agencies work together. Y. ASSEMBLE Youth Conference & Empowerment Summit will enable your child to meet young people from other communities to share ideas and opinions about issues of grave importance. It also teaches young people about being a citizen, about having a voice that is heard and about contributing to the development of services for other young people in Contra Costa County. After this event, the young people who have participated, will hopefully continue their community leadership roles and address the unique issues of concern that emerged during their day at the summit.
