Civil Air Patrol Squadron 44 Cadet Program
Located at Buchanan Field, the Civil Air Patrol Cadet Program is designed to inspire young people between the ages of 12 and 18 to become leaders and dynamic American citizens through an interest in aviation. Cadets participate in a variety of special activities, develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for understanding the impact of aerospace technology upon society, learn self-discipline by studying leadership practices, understand and appreciate the moral issues of our time through discussion and debate, and become and remain physically fit through a special physical fitness program.
EAA Chapter 393 Young Eagles Program
The Young Eagles Program is sponsored by the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) and provides free orientation flights at Buchanan Field during summer months to youth, ages 8 to 17, in EAA members' private aircraft. The intent is to stimulate interest in aviation and its associated fields of science, technology, engineering and math. EAA Chapter 393 also provides an all-expenses-paid scholarship for one high school student to the EAA Air Academy in Oshkosh each summer. Details can be found by visiting the the EAA website.
NCSA Cunningham Youth Scholarship
The Northern California Soaring Association, located at Byron Airport, provides financial assistance to students uner 23 years of age who are enrolled in accredited educational institutions. Scholarship details can be found at the following link: Cunningham Youth Scholarship.
NRI Flying Club Junior Membership:
NRI Flying Club's Junior Membership is offered to non-licensed candidates at Buchanan Field, under the age of 21, with a student pilot certificate. Student pilot members gain access to the club's two non-complex aircraft. Once a student pilot attains their certificate or turns 21 years old, they have the option of joining the club as a regular member or discontinuing membership. A parent or legal guardian must sign all pertinent documents prior to participation of a minor. Contact NRI Flying Club for rates and more information.
Patriots Jet Team Foundation
The Patriots Jet Team Foundation (PJTF) is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring the youth of America with a love of aviation and aerospace. Located at Byron Airport, PJTF programs are designed for young women and men ages 12-18 who are seeking a challenge to learn and grow. The Patriots Jet Team are the core volunteers, who serve as mentors for youth participants. PJTF stresses innovative, hands-on, interactive programs and offers communications and leadership development. For youth who are interested in becoming a pilot, PJTF also offers Ground School, which is the first step toward earning a pilot's license.
