Juvenile Care Fee Refunds

In September 2017, the Board of Supervisors repealed the Juvenile Cost of Care fees. Subsequently, on December 12, 2017, the Board of Supervisors authorized the Probation Department to begin a refund process for account holders who made payments on these fees between September 2010 and November 2016 if their youth's petition was not sustained (the charges were dismissed or the youth was found not guilty).

The Probation Department reviewed over 8,100 Juvenile Hall Cost of Care Fee accounts dating from September 2010 to November 2016. Of the roughly 8,100 accounts it was determined that there was a full or partial payment made on over 3,200 accounts.

Toward the end of January 2018, the Probation Department mailed letters to the 3,200 account holders who made a full or partial payment during September 2010 to November 2016. These letters are posted below.

If you were a Juvenile Hall Cost of Care Fee account holder and you believe you paid money toward the account even though your child's petition was not sustained, you can contact the Probation Department by calling 925-313-4100 or Email Juvenile Care Fees. The Probation Department will investigate your request and inform you if you made an overpayment and are therefore due a refund.
