District Attorney Diana Becton established a Conviction Integrity Unit to investigate wrongful conviction claims of actual innocence in Contra Costa County.
While claims of actual innocence will be the main priority for the unit, it will also review cases where there is evidence of a significant integrity issue.
To submit an application to have your case reviewed please download the application and email the Unit: [email protected]. You also have the option to mail our Office the completed application.
The Conviction Integrity Unit will also assist in reviewing and developing practices and policies for law enforcement agencies and the District Attorney’s Office on training, case assessment, investigations and disclosure obligations. This work will aim to prevent wrongful convictions from happening in the first place.
The unit will also have an external advisory board to offer an outside lens on each reviewed case, which will also provide an additional layer of credibility and transparency during the review process. The advisory board is still under development.
