Glassy Winged Sharpshooter

The glassy-winged sharpshooter is a serious threat to agriculture in California. While it causes damage in a broad range of plants, it is of particular concern to the grape and wine industries because it vectors a bacterium known as Pierce’s disease. The glassy-winged sharpshooter is a strong flier that is capable of infecting many plants, and the disease can kill entire grapevines within 1 to 5 years.
