Identified in the Buchanan Field Airport Master Plan, the Regional Airport Terminal (Terminal) will replace the existing terminal building at the north end of John Glenn Drive. The Terminal will include space for the Airports Administration Office with additional flexible space that can be used for public meetings, serve the general aviation community, potentially attract commercial or charter aviation service, and an Aircraft Rescue Firefighting (ARFF) facility for staff and equipment.
In 2019, the first step of the project began with designing the facility in order to refine project costs and undertake the environmental review process. At this point, March 2020, the project is finalizing the design plans in order to proceed with the construction drawings with the intent to bid the construction project in the first part of 2021 and construction is expected to also begin in 2021.
