The following is an overview of the redistricting process, including public hearings and public workshops. If you need language or other accommodations, please send a request at least 72 hours prior to the meeting. Email an accommodation request.

February  2021 - Report to the Board of Supervisors

August 4, 2021 - Website Launch

August 10, 2021 at 9:00 AM -  Public Hearing 1

Presentation to the Board of supervisors, review current supervisorial maps. The process for accessing the redistricting website, using the online mapping program to submit maps and communities of interest for consideration, subscribing to receiving email updates, and for providing comments will be explained.

August 12, 2021 - Census Data Released

The US Census Bureau will release the first local level results from the 2020 Census including: population change, race, ethnicity, the age 18 and over population, and housing occupancy status. This data is the basis for the California Redistricting data used to draw district boundaries. The California Redistricting data is anticipated in September.

September 2021

Receipt of California Redistricting data and release of mapping application.
Once the California Redistricting data is published, it will be available on the Census Bureau's Redistricting Data Datasets page.

September 15, 2021 at 2:00 PM - Online Mapping Workshop #1

The County will host a technical workshop for the public to learn how the online mapping application works.

October 5, 2021 at 9:00 AM - Public Hearing 2
1025 Escobar Street, Martinez, CA

Presentation to update the Board of Supervisors on the redistricting process; obtain public input on community of interests; staff to provide over/under population; review the criteria for adopting redistricting maps; and receive direction from the Board of Supervisors.

October 14, 2021 at 2:00 PM - Online Mapping Workshop #2

The County will host a technical workshop for the public to learn how the online mapping application works.

Date TBD - County releases Draft Map Alternatives 

County will release 3-6 map proposals for consideration along at least three weeks after census data is released.  

October 19, 2021 at 6:15 PM - Public Hearing 3

Presentation to the Board of Supervisors to include: update on public input on community of interests; staff to review over/under population; present publicly drawn maps received to date, review the criteria for adopting redistricting maps; present (3 – 6) conceptual drafts of supervisorial maps and receive direction from the Board of Supervisors.
 

October 20 - 29, 2021 - Community Redistricting Workshops

Workshops held in each region of the County to provide background on the redistricting process, present potential boundary changes (map alternatives), answer questions and receive input.  Depending on COVID 19 restrictions, these workshops may be in-person, or by Zoom, call-in, or some combination of those alternatives.  Dates and locations for each workshop TBD.

November 9, 2021 at 9:00 AM - Public Hearing 4

Presentation to the Board of Supervisors to include: report on regional workshops, provide update on additional public input received on Community of Interest suggestions, review over/under population for existing districts, present publicly drawn maps, present 3 - 6  conceptual drafts of supervisorial maps, and receive direction from the Board of Supervisors. 

November 23, 2021 at 9:00 AM  - Public Hearing 5 (additional hearings may be set if necessary)

Presentation to the Board of Supervisors to include: provide additional public input received on Community of Interest suggestions, review publicly drawn maps received, review the criteria for adopting redistricting maps, review proposed Final supervisorial district map, receive public input, and Board of Supervisors to consider selection of final map. 

Date TBD - Elections adjusts precinct lines 

Elections Office adjusts precinct lines to conform to new supervisorial districts.

December 15, 2021 - Statutory deadline to complete redistricting 

Per CA Elections Code section 21501(a)(2) the redistricting process must be completed by December 15, 2021. 

December 16, 2021 - Signature in-lieu-of-filing fees begin

The County Clerk will begin to accept signature in-lieu-of-filing fees for U.S. Congressional, State Legislative, and County candidates.

June 7, 2022 - California Direct Primary
