We are asking residents not to park between 2801 Morgan Territory Road and the north side of the closure between 8am and 5pm on Sunday. We understand this will be an inconvenience for residents to get to and from their cars. The extra area without parking on the north side is needed because the roadway is narrow. Vehicles waiting on the north side to cross the closure moving south will need to allow adequate space for vehicles, RVs and trailers that cross the closure and are moving north. The Veterans have graciously volunteered to shuttle residents to and from their cars and through the slide area between 7-9am and 3-5pm.
Reminder: A controlled access will be provided across the landslide portion of Morgan Territory Road tomorrow from 9am to 3pm.
The County's geotechnical consultant determined this week that the landslide has slowed considerably which provides an opportunity for vehicles of legal load limits to drive across in a controlled manner ahead of rainy weather forecasted for next week. Workers will be present to control traffic and evaluate the roadway condition for indications the landslide is no longer safe to drive across. Contra Costa Water District will also be on site to monitor their waterline. The path will only be twelve feet wide and motorists are asked to limit their speed to 5 mph as they drive across the landslide and be prepared for delays depending upon the amount of vehicles. Due to the narrow passage, pedestrian traffic will also be controlled by workers during this time for safety.
Future opportunities to drive across the landslide will be considered depending on stability and safety of the landslide. Please note this access is limited to Sunday only, and is for residents of the Morgan Territory area.
