Consumer Scam Alert: Fraudulent Callers Offering Costco Travel Credit & Travel Benefits
Martinez, Calif. – Today, the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office is issuing a consumer protection scam alert to notify residents of fraudulent phone calls from callers pretending to be from Costco Wholesale. These scammers are offering travel vouchers or a reduced travel package if the resident takes a survey and gives out their personal information.
Costco Wholesale has confirmed that these callers do not work for Costco or Costco travel. These telephone scams are attempting to collect personal information from unsuspecting residents. The caller is pretending to offer a $500 Costco Travel Credit or Costco Cash Card once the survey is done. Residents may see the calls originate from Contra Costa County. However, due to technical software used by the scammers, these calls are not local and the real location of the caller is hidden. When residents give out their personal information, the scammers will use this information to commit identity theft.
To report any telephone scam please contact the Federal Trade Commission or call 1-877-FTC-HELP. You may also report the activity to the District Attorney’s Office by emailing [email protected] or call 866-223-7283.
