[ARCHIVED] PG&E Public Safety Power Outage Confirmed

Power Shutoff Web 10.8.2019

Contra Costa County is preparing to respond to the impacts of a confirmed PG&E power shutoff event that will affect parts of the County. PG&E's Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) will start as early as 10:00 am to 12:00 noon on Wednesday, October 9th, through Thursday, October 10th, at 12:00 pm.

PG&E estimates that 51,000 customers in Contra Costa County could lose power. We expect the impact to affect over 120,000 residents in the County. The shutdown is expected to affect large parts of the County, including Lafayette, Moraga, Orinda, Pinole, Richmond, San Ramon, Walnut Creek, Kensington, El Sobrante, Canyon and Pleasant Hill. The shutoff also includes parts of Bay Point, Pittsburg and North Concord. Residents in those areas should prepare for the possibility of losing power from early morning Wednesday, October 9th, through Thursday, October 10th, at 12:00 noon. PG&E expects to start restoring power on Thursday, October 10th. PG&E notes that Contra Costa County is one of 29 counties in the state that may undergo a Public Safety Power Shutoff. The agency says that complete restoration of power may take one to five days.

“Our staff has been diligently planning to adequately respond to the effects of this event,” said Board Chair, Supervisor John Gioia. “However, we want to remind our residents that the decision to turn off the power and the speed at which it is restored is planned and managed solely by PG&E.”
