On December 20, 2019, Chief Administrative Officer for Contra Costa County David J. Twa announced that 22 Applicants met the minimum requirements to be considered for the County Clerk-Recorder position. The statutory requirements for the position are that the Applicant must be 18 years of age, a citizen of California, and a resident and registered voter of Contra Costa County upon appointment.

At the Board of Supervisors’ January 14, 2020 meeting, six Applicants were selected to be considered for the County Clerk-Recorder position.

On January 21, 2020, the Board of Supervisors interviewed Applicants and selected Deborah Cooper as the Finalist for the Clerk-Recorder position, and authorized County Administrator to conduct a social media check, obtain fingerprints, conduct a criminal background check, and obtain an Economic Disclosure Statement (Form 700) from the Finalist.
