The Board of Supervisors welcomed the public at the free community celebration commemorating Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Humanitarians of the Year Awards on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 in Contra Costa County’s Board Chambers located at 651 Pine Street, Martinez, CA.
The theme of the event was “We Are in This Together”. The celebration featured keynote speaker, Bisa French, Interim Police Chief of the Richmond Police Department, in Richmond, CA. The interim chief, who has both African American and Latina heritage, became the first woman of color to lead the department. Ms. French will share her perspectives on Dr. King’s legacy.
The Supervisors recognized the 2020 Humanitarian of the Year, Tamisha Walker, co-founder and Executive Director of the Safe Return Project in Richmond, and Student Humanitarian of the Year, Christina Mazzi, a senior at Concord High School.
