[ARCHIVED] Places to Cool and Tips to Stay Safe

The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory and Warning for the rest of this week through Friday, June 18, 2021.

See locations in Contra Costa County to cool off during high heat this week. According to state guidelines, masks are required for everyone in cooling centers. 

County Employment & Human Services Locations 

See EHSD Places to Cool (PDF) and Places to Cool in Spanish (PDF). EHSD offices below are open as cooling centers Wednesday-Friday, June 16-18, from 8 AM to 5 PM:

TIPS TO PREVENT heat-related symptoms: 

  • Drink water. Sip all day; do not wait until you are thirsty.
  • Do not leave children or pets in vehicles.
  • Limit physical activity and wear a hat outside, preferably with a wide brim.
  • Keep shades drawn, and blinds closed, but windows should be slightly open.
  • Open windows to cooling breezes in the evening.
