Contra Costa County Public Works to begin Construction of the Happy Valley Road Embankment Repair Project
(Updated) July 23, 2021, Lafayette, CA – Contra Costa County Public Works will begin construction of the Happy Valley Road Embankment Repair Project starting on Monday, August 9, 2021 through Friday, October 29, 2021, barring unforeseen circumstances. Work will occur between 7:00 am and 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday, weather permitting. Work will take place on Happy Valley Road approximately 0.2 miles east of Bear Creek Road near the City of Lafayette. Happy Valley Road will be fully closed, from Bear Creek Road to south of the project site near 4926 Happy Valley Road, for approximately 70 days during construction, 24 hours per day. In the event of an emergency, access will be provided through the area to emergency responders. Message boards providing notice of upcoming road closure will be placed near the project site prior to road closure. Road users should expect delays near the project site due to alternate routes.
The project will reconstruct the northbound lane and restore two-way traffic on the portion of Happy Valley Road that washed out during 2017 storm events. Work will consist of repair and restoration of a 250 foot stretch of northbound Happy Valley Road, including installing a soldier pile retaining wall with safety railing on the east side of the roadway and repairing settled roadway affected by the eroded embankment.
Funding for this project is provided by SB1, Local Road Funds and Emergency Relief Funds (Federal Highway Administration). To learn more information about this project visit: www.contracosta.ca.gov/8093/Happy-Valley-Road-Embankment-Repair
