[ARCHIVED] Road Work Scheduled Along San Pablo Dam Road

Contra Costa County Public Works to Perform Road Work along San Pablo Dam Road

April 26, 2022, El Sobrante & Orinda, CA – A Contra Costa County Public Works Department’s contractor will be performing road work along San Pablo Dam Road starting on Wednesday, April 27,2022 through Friday, May 20, 2022, barring unforeseen circumstances.  Work will occur between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm, Monday through Friday, weather permitting. Work will take place on San Pablo Dam Road, between Tri Lane in El Sobrante and Wildcat Canyon Road/Bear Creek Road in Orinda. Traffic control, including lane and shoulder closures, will be used. Drivers should expect delays up to 15 minutes near the work area.

The work will include two phases: Phase 1 will consist of pavement testing in which each test is taken every 250 feet and takes approximately one minute. Traffic behind the testing operation will be stopped. The operation will be moved to the shoulder of the road to allow cars to pass and not hold up traffic for extended periods in between tests.

Phase 2 will consist of coring approximately 20 total samples within the road in each direction. The work also includes drilling of eight borings approximately 20 foot deep in the northbound shoulder. The impacted shoulder or lane will be closed during the work.  A flagger will be in place during the necessary lane closure.

Results from this testing and coring/boring will be used to determine the appropriate pavement repair for a future road rehabilitation project. Funding for this work is provided by Gas Tax funds (SB 1).
