[ARCHIVED] Update on Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta

Delta Bridge

Protect the Delta

The Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta Estuary (Delta) relies on California’s two biggest rivers, the Sacramento and San Joaquin, and is the largest estuary on the West Coast. East Contra Costa County covers a large area within the southwestern Delta. The entire northern border of the County is bound by waterfront that flows from the Delta to the San Francisco Bay.

A healthy, vibrant Delta is closely tied to the physical, societal and economic health of those who live, work and recreate in the San Francisco Bay-Delta region and throughout much of the state.

The Delta tunnel project, known as the "Delta Conveyance Project", is the latest version of a massive State water infrastructure project that would divert water around the Delta. The tunnel takes fresh water out of the Delta bypassing the ecosystem, so less water goes through the Delta which improves export water quality at the expense of water quality for those who live and work in the Delta.

See the Update on the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta presentation.

The tunnel project is scheduled to release its Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR) this summer.

If you want to learn more or provide written comments on the DEIR, please contact: Ryan Hernandez at 925-655-2919 or by email.
