Paving Construction Work on Fred Jackson Way

Contra Costa County Public Works to begin Paving Work Construction of the Fred Jackson Way First Mile/Last Mile Connection Project in North Richmond 

May 12, 2022, North Richmond, CA – Contra Costa County Public Works has completed phase 1 of construction of the Fred Jackson Way First Mile/Last Mile Connection Project, which started on Monday, August 2, 2021. Phase 2 work is scheduled to begin on Monday, May 16, 2022 and last through Friday, June 17, 2022, barring unforeseen circumstances.  Work will occur between 7:00 am and 3:00 pm, Monday through Friday, weather permitting. Message boards providing notice of upcoming road closure will be placed near the project site prior to road closure. Road users should expect delays near the project site due to alternate routes.  

Phase 2 will consist of reconstructing Fred Jackson Way pavement from Grove Avenue to Wildcat Creek.   The paving work will be completed in 4 stages with each stage lasting approximately 1 week. Stages 1 and 2 include work from Grove to Market Avenue and Stages 3 and 4 include work from Market Avenue to Wildcat Creek. 

The intersections of Fred Jackson Way at Silver Avenue will be closed for 12 consecutive days during construction of the first two stages and Market Avenue will be closed for 12 consecutive days during the final two stages of construction.  

During stages 1 and 4, southbound traffic will stay on Fred Jackson Way and northbound traffic will be detoured via local streets. During Stages 2 and 3, northbound traffic will stay on Fred Jackson Way and southbound traffic will be detoured to local streets.  Drivers can expect traffic delays due to construction. 

The Active Transportation Program, North Richmond Area of Benefit, and Transportation provide funding for this project for Livable Communities Source, State Coastal Conservancy Proposition 1, and Gas Tax funds (SB 1).
