[ARCHIVED] Illegal Fireworks & Fire Danger

The Seal of Contra costa County California

Fire and law enforcement officials across the County are warning residents about the extreme dangers of fireworks use in current critically high fire danger conditions.

All fireworks, regardless of type or labeling, are illegal everywhere in Contra Costa County. Residents are reminded that there are no "Safe & Sane" fireworks. Regardless of labeling, they are all dangerous and uncontrollable. A new fireworks ordinance Chapter 44-2 of the County Ordinance Code enacted last year, along with numerous city ordinances, has strengthened enforcement abilities. Additionally, the potential for serious injury posed by these illegal devices and the risk of causing catastrophic wildfires during this time of extremely high fire danger is great. See the joint news release (PDF) for more information.

Residents are urged to report all use of illegal fireworks immediately to their local law enforcement agency’s non-emergency phone line. Contra Costa County Fire Protection District also announced a toll-free hotline to report illegal fireworks use in the County: 1-833-885-2021. In cases of fires or where the immediate risk to life or property exists, 911 should be called. View news release (PDF) for more details.
