Jordan Douglas Krah Charged With Hate Crime
Martinez, Calif. – A 40-year-old Colorado man has been charged by the Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office with a two-count misdemeanor complaint for two separate assaultive incidents. The charges include a hate crime for making racial and homophobic remarks while threatening one individual in San Ramon and committing battery for spitting on an individual the following day in Danville.
The hate crime occurred on December 24th at the In N Out Burger in San Ramon. The victim and his friend were eating inside of the restaurant when approached by Jordan Krah who proceeded to make racist and homophobic comments. Krah is alleged to have threatened to spit on the victim and subsequently threatened harm should the victim go outside. San Ramon Police Department utilized surveillance video to identify the suspect as Jordan Krah.
Contra Costa District Attorney Diana Becton said, “A threat to one ethnic community is a threat to all communities. There is no place for hate crime in Contra Costa County. I commend the San Ramon Police Department for their response to this incident along with the joint efforts of law enforcement locally and in Colorado.”
The filing determination was made by the Contra Costa District Attorney’s Hate Crimes Committee, a team of prosecutors tasked with reviewing and analyzing hate incidents to ensure such crimes are properly identified and prosecuted.
In addition to the charge of a hate crime (Penal Code Section 422.6) , Krah faces a separate charge of battery (Penal Code Section 242). On December 25, Krah confronted an individual in the parking lot of the Lunardi’s Market in Danville. During the incident, Krah is alleged to have spit on the victim, which constitutes a battery offense.
If convicted by a jury, Krah could face a maximum sentence of one year and six months in county jail. Krah posted bond and his arraignment is set for February 2, 2023, at 8:30 am in Martinez.
During the course of the investigation, it was learned that Krah faces prosecution in Denver, CO for vehicular assault. Colorado authorities intend to have him extradited back to Denver.
