I have damage to my property; what should I do?
The deadline to apply for Federal Assistance was March 16, 2023; if you did not apply for assistance, work with your insurance company to determine what resources might be available. FEMA does not accept late applications for individual assistance.
When are FEMA damage inspectors coming to assess our community, and what do their efforts mean for our recovery?
In late January 2023, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the California Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) conducted preliminary assessments of damage caused by the January storms in Contra Costa County.
FEMA will provide an official determination on whether Contra Costa County qualifies for Public Assistance and other storm recovery funds. Currently, Contra Costa County has been approved for Individual Assistance (IA). Residents can apply through FEMA directly for financial assistance at www.disasterassistance.gov or call 1-800-621-3362. Residents must apply and then their applications are reviewed and approved by FEMA.
What is the current financial impact to the county?
Our preliminary estimate of the widespread impact throughout the county, including unincorporated areas, is about $43 million in road and debris cleanup. We expect this figure to change as further assessments are made. We will share more information as it becomes available.
When will individual financial assistance be available?
On Feb. 2, Contra Costa County was approved for Individual Aid (IA). FEMA provides Individual Assistance to eligible individuals and households who have sustained losses as a direct result of a disaster that receives a federal disaster declaration.
Because the County received the IA declaration, residents can apply for the programs directly through FEMA at www.disasterassistance.gov. Residents must apply and then their applications are reviewed and approved by FEMA.
How should I prepare for future storms?
Sign up for emergency alerts through the Community Warning System at www.CWSAlerts.com. Pay close attention to weather forecasts and conditions if traveling. Make sure to have an emergency kit for everyone in your household with food, clothing, and essential supplies for at least three days. Also, review your insurance coverage regularly to help ensure that your possessions, your property, and your loved ones are protected.
Disaster Loan Outreach Information
The SBA will open a Disaster Loan Outreach Center at 510 La Gonda Way in Danville. It will be open from Friday, March 17 to Monday, April 17, 2023, Monday - Friday, 9 AM -6 PM. SBA customer service representatives will be on hand to answer questions about SBA’s disaster loan program, explain the application process, and help complete electronic loan applications. The deadline to apply for economic injury is Oct. 16, 2023.
Disaster Recovery Center Information
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will open a Disaster Recovery Center in partnership with Contra Costa County to help residents impacted by the storms from Dec. 31, 2022, to Jan. 30, 2023, to connect directly with recovery resources. The Center has opened in Danville during these dates and times, depending on need:

Alameda County has opened two Disaster Recovery Centers from February 10, 2023, through Friday, February 24. These centers will be open from 10 AM-7 PM. Residents from Contra Costa can visit these centers to receive information and referrals for state and federal storm relief resources.
