Thank you for your service, Veterans! Contra Costa County’s Board of Supervisors honored Veterans & their families at the Annual Veterans Day Celebration in Board Chambers.
This year, the ceremony featured a special recognition for the 50th commemoration of the end of the Vietnam War and the withdrawal of U.S. ground troops from Vietnam.
The keynote speaker was Vietnam veteran James Hill. Hill served as an Army Infantry Officer in Vietnam and received several awards. His final rank was Captain. James also serves as Vice President of Vietnam Veterans of Diablo Valley, and he is active with the National Pathfinder Association and Vietnam Helicopter Museum.
The celebration event also featured a color guard ceremony by Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Deputies. Veterans Service Office staff member Michael Beveridge performed You’ll Never Walk Alone and the National Anthem.
New this year was a Poem Reading by Betty Nelson in honor of her late husband and veteran, Bill Nelson.
